On March 07, 2024, I had the privilege of engaging in a deeply enriching conversation with Emad Tinawi, the visionary founder of Engage-AI. With a background spanning over three decades in social and economic development, Mr. Tinawi's expertise has been shaped by his distinguished roles: from a senior partner at Price Waterhouse Cooper's government consulting practice in Dubai to his influential positions as the director of thought leadership at PWC's Middle East Public Sector Institute and managing partner for the Middle East and North Africa at the Monitor Group. His profound impact extends through his work with senior government leaders on initiatives aimed at fostering economic growth and social equity, alongside spearheading economic development projects for USAID and other prestigious entities. Mr. Tinawi's advisory contributions to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in the Middle East and his involvement in the World Bank's Advisory Panel on the Middle East and North Africa further underscore his profound influence on global development dynamics.
Our discussion ventured into the critical realms of AI Constitution by Polina Prianykova, AI regulation, and legislation, offering invaluable insights into the strategies of potential state and non-state actors. We delved into various cases related to AI, addressing the pressing challenges of digital literacy and the anticipation of future professions. The discourse was not only theoretical but also practical, providing a comprehensive overview of the current landscape and speculative futures in the realm of artificial intelligence.
I presented my perspectives on the notion of a state monopoly over AI, advocating for an AI-friendly environment that nurtures innovation while ensuring equitable access and ethical governance. Our exchange was marked by a mutual understanding of the importance of such dialogues in shaping policies and frameworks that support the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies. This conversation with Mr. Tinawi was not just a meeting of minds but a confluence of visions for a future where technology and humanity coexist in harmony, guided by principles of fairness and inclusivity. Moreover, we explored potential avenues for collaboration in advancing the field of AI regulation.
