On August 24, 2024, I had the privilege of participating in the Africa-Japan Youth Drive: The Co-creation of the Future We Want, an event that brought together young leaders, policymakers, and thought leaders from Africa and Japan. This collaborative initiative, supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Volunteers Programme (UNV), is a testament to the power of youth in driving transformative change.
The event served as a vital platform for inter-generational dialogue, where young voices were amplified, highlighting their role as key architects of a more resilient and sustainable future. In alignment with the United Nations’ Agenda 2030 and the forthcoming Pact for the Future, this gathering underscored the significance of youth perspectives in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. The discussions reflected a shared commitment to foster collaborative partnerships between African and Japanese youth, propelling them to the forefront of policy recommendations and action plans leading up to TICAD9 in 2025.
Throughout the event, emphasis was placed on leveraging innovative approaches, such as the Future Design Approach workshops, to integrate youth insights into strategic decision-making processes. The dialogue provided a great opportunity to explore how youth can catalyze societal progress through enhanced people-to-people relationships, inclusive governance, and active involvement in shaping policies that affect the future.
During this occasion, our institution, the Global AI Center POLLYPRIANY, reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for youth engagement and the realization of SDG. Our center has undertaken substantial work on these themes, reflected in our latest academic article, which offers deep insights into the intersections of Africa-Japan legislation, AI strategies, and the evolving paradigms of education and cybersecurity.
